What is payment behaviour?
Payment behaviour shows how quickly a customer pays on average, expressed as the number of days after the due date. The calculation is weighted by invoice amount.
A payment behaviour of 54 means, for example, that the customer pays an average of 54 days after the due date. A negative value means the customer pays before the due date on average.
Payment behaviour is visible to all Payt users and does not need to be enabled separately.
Where can I find the payment behaviour?
Payment behaviour is visible in two places in Payt:
On the customer page
At the top of the customer page, directly below the customer's name, you will find the payment behaviour as a statistic. Hovering over the number shows a tooltip with the exact calculation.
Via an export from the customer overview
You can also export the payment behaviour from the customer overview.
You may need to activate the 'Payment behaviour' export field before it appears in your export. You can read how to do this in the article: How do I export data from Payt?
Setting credit limits based on payment behaviour
You can use payment behaviour to set credit limits for your customers, allowing you to automatically manage customer risk.
You can read how to set credit limits in the article: How do I manage credit limits for my customers?
How is payment behaviour calculated?
The calculation is based on invoices that were fully paid in the past 12 months, provided payment was made within 60 days of the due date. The result is a weighted average: invoices with a higher amount carry more weight.
The following rules apply to the calculation:
Only debit invoices are included. Credit notes and invoices with an amount of €0 are excluded.
Only fully paid invoices are counted. Partial payments do not affect payment behaviour as long as the invoice has not been fully settled. The payment date is only recorded once the outstanding amount reaches €0.
A negative value is possible when a customer pays before the due date on average.
Months without payment data are not included in the calculation. If a customer has no invoices in the past 12 months that meet the criteria, no payment behaviour score is shown. In the export, the value will appear as empty. On the customer page, the location where payment behaviour is normally shown will be visible, but the value will be empty.
